Texas Bluebonnets
Every year Texans await the arrival of the state flower, the Texas Bluebonnet. Every spring, around March - April, fields of bluebonnets start to pop up everywhere, transforming once ugly highway medians, and FM country roads into idyllic scenes that would make any landscape photographer jealous.
It's always a toss up as to where and when the flowers will make their appearance. This year we planned to take the kids back to last years setting, a neighborhood about ten miles from our house. Since the neighborhood is situated a little further out in the country, there is much more land and open fields. Last year the bluebonnets were abundant, and provided more then enough scenes to capture our pictures with (see here).
Unfortunately, this year after a couple trips out to check, we realized that the bluebonnets would not be back, at least not like they were last year. For whatever reason, the fields had been cut down, and only a couple patchy spots remained. We were basically resigned to the fact that this year we just wouldn't have any bluebonnet photos, (surely a Texas sin)... Luckily, driving home yesterday, in our very own neighborhood we found a beautiful patch and were able to get our 2013 bluebonnet pictures! My friend has vowed to find a field and plant her own for next years season, check back to see the results!
