First Fishing Trip
For about a week Isla's been asking Jordan to take her fishing. At first we were confused as to where this obsession came from, but soon found out that she got it from an episode of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. Never one to disappoint his little girl, Jordan promised Isla that he would take her this past Sunday. All week she eagerly awaited their trip, asking us every chance she got, when she was going fishing.
Well, Saturday was an AWFUL day. It literally rained the whole day... We took Isla to dance class, got some lunch, and holed up in the house with a movie while Holden napped. Feeling totally stir crazy we went out again for dinner and ice cream, trying to spend as much time away from home before the kids had to go to bed, and getting soaked in the process. We only hoped that Sunday would be nicer - for Isla's fishing trip and our own sanity.
Fortunately, we woke up to beautiful blue skies on Sunday morning - the trip was on!
We headed to Academy to get some fishing poles and bait. Isla crinkled her nose at any fishing pole that wasn't pink - specifically, Barbie or Princesses. I am surprised she let Jordan pick out his own pole when she realized he was not going for the pink models...
Of course she was totally unfazed by the worms - although, I don't think she wanted to touch them.
We made our way to the north side of Cinco to fish at North Lake. Daddy set the poles up, added a little hot dog for bait, and we were ready to catch some fish.
It was clear pretty early on that Isla was not going to catch any fish on her own. She couldn't keep the pole still long enough (shocker), and was constantly pulling it out of the water, waving it around, etc... She was having fun though, and that's all that matters. Still, I wanted Jordan to catch a fish so that she could see the whole process.
At first the fish were taking the bait right off the hook - epic fishing fail... But with a little bit of tweaking Jordan was able to figure out how to get the hook to snag, and it was a free for all. Isla was a little unsure of the fish, but definitely excited.
I have to say this trip was a real test of patience. No matter how much she liked fishing, she may not exactly be ready for it. Waving the rod around, tangling the fishing line and actually dropping her pole into the water were just a couple of highlights of the afternoon. Luckily Isla has a Daddy that's willing to go to pretty great lengths for his baby girl - he searched around in the water until he found the rod at the bottom of the lake - Isla was happy again...
The trip was a major success, but we felt bad that Isla had nothing to show for it. So... thats how we acquired a new pet - Tracy...
Isla is insanely proud of "her" pet and in the short time she's been a part of our family, Isla's sang to her with guitar accompaniment, read her a book, fed her fish food, and random crumbs she finds around the house, and tried to give her innumerable kisses. I explained to her that she needs to blow kisses, and not try to actually kiss her - didn't know that that was something that I would have to explain...
It should also be noted that Tracy is actually a male betta, but according to Isla and the pink princess castle, pink rocks, and purple flowers she is all lady...
Welcome to the family Tracy - you are obviously very loved.
* I know it looks like Holden has simply disappeared, judging by the past couple of posts, but I promise he is alive and well and has been on all these past trips with us. Problem is, he has just been pretty unhappy during both of them. Keeping him in his stroller and walking him around with a bottle tends to be the best course of action sometimes. I will make sure that there are plenty of Holden pictures to come!
