2018 The Summer of the Mural

This Summer I became obsessed with finding cool murals around town and photographing them. It all started with our trip to Tennessee. A quick look around Instagram will tell you that Nashville is a town of many murals. A little more unknown however is just how many are in Texas and the Houston and Austin areas specifically.

I also visit Galveston in this post, although there weren’t quite as many as Houston and Austin.

Well, much to the chagrin of my family (mostly just Isla and Holden) we spent many scorching hot weekends this Summer exploring our towns in search of murals we found on blogs, Instagram, drive-by’s or word-of-mouth.

As I was compiling all the pictures, I marveled at how many murals we actually checked off this Summer. The craziest part of all of it is, we didn’t even scratch the surface. The coolest part of all of it is, we can probably go back next Summer to many of the same places and find new and beautiful artwork waiting for us.

What a cool way to decorate and advertise what your city is all about! So without further ado, I give you my portfolio “The Summer of the Mural” ;)

Nashville

Galveston

Austin

I should note; I didn’t go searching for murals in Austin, rather took photos as we came upon them…. This town has a bunch of murals that we have not yet discovered, but have added to next years bucket list.

Houston

I march because of the people who marched before me. I live in a better world due to their bravery. And I owe it to them to continue the fight for equality.
