Inlet, New York - A Little Piece of Heaven in the Adirondacks

Earlier in the year we received some wonderful news; our college friend Will was getting married! We knew the wedding was going to be in a lake town up in the Adirondack Mountains, but we didn’t know what time of year it was going to be. Secretly I was hoping for Fall. I wanted to see the colors that are so noticeably absent in South Texas in the Fall. We soon found out that the wedding was going to be in the Summer, and while I was at first a little disappointed, I would soon find out I had absolutely no reason to be. If I could go back and pick a season that is the one I would have ultimately picked, it was absolutely gorgeous with perfect weather, and scenery.

So let’s start at the beginning…

Jordan’s parents were gracious enough to come down and watch the kids for us while we took a much needed adult trip. We headed to the airport early in the morning on the day after the 4th of July.

After an uneventful couple of flights we landed in Albany just as the storm clouds started to roll in. Inlet, NY - where the wedding was being held, is not the easiest place to get to, but that’s one of the things that makes it feel so amazing. For the four days that we were there we felt totally secluded - like we were in a whole different world.

We started the three hour trip in our rented red Kia Soul. The running joke that weekend was that our rental looked exactly like the car emoji on your iPhones. However, it did the trick and after a scenic drive in which the rain clouds passed we found ourselves in the quaint town of Inlet.

For me, this town was perfect! It’s literally what comes to mind when I think of idyllic lake town. I was positively giddy with excitement. Unfortunately, Jordan was starting to feel a little sick (more on that later), and while he was happy to be there he couldn’t quite match my enthusiasm.

At the end of the town we made a left turn into the Woods Inn.

I knew this place was going to be special when I booked online. I tried to call and ask questions, but were told that they were basically closed for the Winter. The property is comprised of a central Inn, a cabin with it’s own little dock, and a series of tents for the more adventurous guests.

We decided to share the cabin (which had two bedrooms), with our good friends Chris and Jessica.

Our cabin was so quaint and cute - we LOVED it. It became a meeting/hangout space for our friends throughout the weekend which was also nice.

Chris and Jessica weren’t set to arrive until the next day, so we had the first night all to ourselves. We unloaded the car and headed over to the local pizza spot for dinner and drinks.

This is when it became apparent that Jordan’s illness was becoming a little more serious. Once back home Jordan went to lay down and rest while I headed to the dock with my camera.

The sunset was gorgeous, and while I really enjoyed it and the solitude, I mostly hated that Jordan wasn’t getting to experience it with me.

The clouds were moving so fast it created a blur when I left my shutter open.

That night we decided that we should visit an urgent care first thing in the morning. The closest one we found was about 30 minutes away, so we woke up early and headed over there to try and get some relief from Jordan’s symptoms. Unfortunately when we got there we were told that this was not in fact an urgent care and we would need an appointment, of which they had none.

Without going into too much detail we thought Jordan had a urinary tract infection. What we didn’t know is that especially in the early stages, a kidney stone can mimic the symptoms of a UTI.

Nevertheless we went to the drug store and loaded up on cranberry juice and OTC medications. Jordan ended up feeling a little better, certainly not 100% but there was no way he was going to miss out on a weekend with our friends from college. He rallied and we had a great time. The kidney stone would end up rearing its ugly head later on in the Summer - stay tuned, I just know you’re waiting with bated breath. ;)

Welcome Party at a local park

It was so amazing catching up with all these people in one place with NO kids. I truly felt like I was back in college for those three days.

I will be forever grateful to the University of Tennessee for these lifelong friendships…

…And for my best friend - who would’ve have thought?

Congratulations to the happy couple. We wish you ALL the happiness in the world. Thank you for letting us share your day with you. I say we make it an annual trip!
