A Quick Update
It's been a while since I've blogged, and I wanted to update everyone on what's been going on in our world!
It's been a busy month and a half, Holden turned THREE, and started a new school, Jordan bought his dream car, Mimi came for a visit and Daddy and Isla went to the Daddy Daughter Dance for the second year in a row. Isla hung out with some Disney Princesses, the rodeo came to town, and Holden Peed on the potty three times, wait, that one bears repeating, HOLDEN PEED ON THE POTTY THREE TIMES!!!
It's a work in progress, but we are confident that we will soon be a diaper free home!!!
So, lets start at the very beginning…
Our Big Three Year Old
I can't believe it, but somehow our tiny baby boy, has already experienced three years of life. It makes sense, Holden came screaming into this world at lightning speed, so much so, we were worried we would have a super exciting story about how I gave birth in Jordan's car flying down I-10. He hasn't slowed down since, making me wish, more than a few times, that I could somehow slow time.
Since Holden's experiences with birthday parties usually start and end with him sneaking bites of the birthday cake, or multiple cupcakes, we decided not to have a traditional birthday party for him this year. Instead, we planned to have a day full of all Holden's favorite things.
First up, we set up our bounce house in the front yard and filled the front ball pit for him to roll around in.
Next up was Happy Meals and The McDonalds Playground… And of course some ice cream.
We rounded out the "day of Holden's favorite things" splashing around in the hot tub, and singing Happy Birthday before enjoying cake Isla and I made for him the night before.
I think the smile on this cuties face says it all. He had a great day!
The big three year old birthday also brought a new school for Holden. The Monday following his birthday, Holden started the Early Childhood Autism Program at our neighborhood elementary school. Of course there were tears from both Mom and Dad as we dropped our little guy off at such a BIG school. Since that first day, he's made so much progress. He LOVES going to school, and usually, (Mondays are exceptions for us all), greets his teachers with a big smile. We are so thankful for the KISD school system, and the available resources so close to us. The teacher to student ratio is amazing, with three, sometimes four teachers to seven kids. Also, the school is literally just blocks from our house. On nice days I get to pick him up on my bike. He loves riding home with the wind in his curls! But by far, the best part of his new school is picking him up. His teachers walk him out with his other classmates and once Holden picks me out of the other parents, he gets SO excited. he starts jumping up and down, and runs to me for hugs with a huge smile on his face.
The combination of occupational and speech, with his amazing therapist Denise, and his new school program seems to be doing wonders for our little guy. Making Momma and Daddy, and Holden super happy.
68' Malibu Chevelle
Someone else got a present on Holden's birthday. While up in Dallas for the national championship, Jordan and I stopped by a classic car place that he had been researching for a while. There he found a red Malibu Chevelle with black racing stripes. It was love at first sight. A couple days after we got back to Houston, Jordan became the proud owner of this car that Isla has affectionately dubbed "Bu". The car was delivered about a week later and Jordan couldn't have been more excited.
I have to admit, it's a pretty cool car…
I think it's safe to say, Jordan's probably not gonna get a birthday present this year!
Mimi comes to Houston
A couple weeks ago my Mom made the trip to Houston to see us and the kids. Isla was so excited, and asked on nearly an hourly basis starting a week in advance, "How much longer till Mimi gets here"?
They were like two peas in a pod that weekend.
I promise Mimi and Holden spent plenty of quality time together as well. I just didn't get any pictures of it!
It was a sad day for all of us when Mimi had to go back to Florida, but luckily for us all, we were heading down to Florida in a couple of weeks. Check back soon for our post on that fun trip!
Daddy Daughter Dance
Sadly for Daddy, Isla took some convincing to go the the Daddy Daughter dance at the gym this year. I think she felt like she was too old and had outgrown it.
ALREADY?!?!
After explaining that girls much older than her go, and changing the date to a double date with our friend Jamie and Isla's friend Kylie, she was ready to go, and excited to dress up for a night out with Daddy.
Jordan got Isla a corsage, and made the night extra special by taking her in the Chevelle. I love this night, they are both just so cute!
Rodeo
The Rodeo is a big time of year in the state of Texas. There are "Go Texan" days at school, trail walking events, cookoffs, concerts and parades. And then theres the actual rodeo.
It's a three week event that Texans look forward to every year. So Isla was super excited when she found out that she would get to participate in the Katy kickoff to the rodeo, the parade. We were so proud of our little Texas cheerleader who walked the two mile course in the rain and cowboy boots! AND without Mom or Dad. Super thankful for coaches Misty and Erica who corralled what I'm sure were some very whiny little divas.
This was our first year to participate in, or go to the parade. It was a fun way to kickoff Rodeo in our own backyard without having to go all the way downtown. I definitely see this becoming a new tradition.
Princess Playdate
One of the many things I love about where we live is the numerous activities that they have for the kids. It's such a family oriented neighborhood and city, and we are thankful for all the options to entertain. Unfortunately, when the Princess Playdate came to Cinco Ranch I was not feeling so great. Luckily, we are also blessed with great friends, who offered to take Isla with her.
The girls LOVED it, as I'm sure you can tell from these great pictures that Erica captured!
Well, thats it for now. I feel a little more caught up, but still have much more coming your way soon, so stay tuned!
