Wedding Day
The catalyst that got this trip rolling was here - it was wedding day. We arrived at Mar Hall the night before, and enjoyed a lovely introduction reception with all of Samuel and Gillian's family and friends. It was wonderful to see those we had already met, and so great to get to know all the new faces.
Mar Hall literally looks like something straight out of Downton Abbey.
And looking back at my pictures, I'm amazed at how much this place looks like a sketch or a painting. It was absolutely beautiful, and exactly what you think of when you conjure up images of the UK.
The wedding was an afternoon affair, but unlike American weddings, the festivities would not end until 1am. I am not sure, but I think the party went on well after this, at the hotel bar. Jordan and I decided to be responsible, as we had one more activity planned for the next day, and didn't want to miss out. Still, we stayed until right around midnight, and were able to see how a different culture celebrates this beautiful ceremony. To say we had a smashing good time, would be an understatement. It was brilliant! ;)
Once again, the weather was perfect, and we enjoyed an extended cocktail hour outside.
One of the best parts of the whole celebration was the dancing. Kaylee dancing is basically the line dances that we all learned back in elementary school PE. The same goes for these scottish kids, except, they actually dance them all at weddings and other social events. The band gave instructions before each dance, but of course my two left feet didn't listen. I'm sure everyone was getting a big kick out of the Americans who couldn't keep up!
The whole party was wonderful, down to each tiny detail.
Thank you to Samuel, Gillian, and both their families for showing us an amazing time! You two make a beautiful couple, and we know you will have a very happy and joyful life together.
