Isla's First Haircut
For anyone who knew Isla when she was really young, the idea of a first haircut seems absurd. Isla was one of those little girls who didn't grow that much hair that fast. Because of this, it has taken me until her third birthday to actually take her to get it trimmed up. However, after about age two on, her hair has been growing super fast. Since it's so curly, the longer it is the easier it tends to get matted. I am not joking; some mornings she wakes up and it looks like she has been growing dreads for weeks.
We finally took her to my hair salon a couple weeks before Christmas. We weren't exactly sure how she would react - but I have to say I definitely had some visions of her screaming her head off and making it virtually impossible for her hairdresser. If our two-times-a-day hair brushings were any indication I felt that we were in for an epic battle.
This turned out to be the exact opposite. She was SO excited as soon as we stepped into the salon. She went right up to the counter and informed them that she was getting her hair done. She was particularly interested in the blow dryer, which is odd because the only time that I ever tried to blow dry it at home was a total disaster.
Our little girl looked so tiny in that chair, yet so grown up all at the same time!
For the most part she sat there as still as possible. I was extremely proud of her.
She got a glamorous blow out and while it was mainly straight except for a couple curls on the bottom, this only lasted for about a half hour... and then her curls came back. BUT - a amazing thing happened: even with her curls, I was able to easily run my fingers through her hair. She looked beautiful - and I think she knew it! She was a huge hit in the salon and played it up for all her fans.
Unfortunately, she still isn't a huge fan of the blow dryer at home, but she's already ready for her next hair cut!
