Nana and Papaw's Christmas Visit

The day after Christmas Jordan’s parents were set to come into town. We had invited them for Christmas, but landed on the day after. Honestly, it worked out perfectly. The holidays are so busy as is, so them coming the day after allowed us to kick back, relax and really enjoy their visit. It was also something for the kids to look forward to after the realization that the big Christmas buildup had come to an end.

The plan was to head up to the lake for a couple nights the day after they arrived. Of course we had to make a stop and introduce them to the wonder of Buc-ees.

I’m pretty sure they thought we were exaggerating when we described this place. By the end of the visit we had to pry them out of there ;).

From there we headed to Smithville, Texas for lunch. I had come through before with the kids but didn’t stop as I had Teddy with me, and it was boiling hot out. It was super cute, and I wanted to make sure that we made a trip back through.

Lunch took awhile, but Isla enjoyed checking out the little shops and spending as much of her Christmas money as we would allow - LOL!

Of course no trip to Smithville would be complete without a stop at the Hope Floats House.

Next up we headed towards the interstate by way of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre Gas Station. This place has been kept as true to the movies setting as possible. They sell barbecue, and you can actually rent one of the cabins on site and stay the night.

Inside was all sorts of creepy memorabilia and horror related chotchkie’s. It’s definitely worth a stop if you’re in the area and a must see if you are a fan of the Slasher Horror movie genre.

We finally made it to the house early that evening and decided to stretch our legs with a little walk.

We finished the night with dinner at home, some family games and of course a viewing of Hope Floats!

The next morning we headed into Austin for some BBQ and touring around the city.

We love touring cities on bike, and this is our favorite bike shop. I highly recommend it for anyone in the area. The staff is amazing and have actually fixed some things on our personal bikes free of charge!

After a long day we ordered pizza and snuggled up at home.

The next morning it was time to head home. We finished the visit with another game night and lots of laughs.

It was such a special visit and we truly appreciate Mary Ann and Jerry making the trip in the height of the travel season. It always takes me back to the first time we planned a trip up to the Hill Country and stayed in a charming neighborhood called The Hollows. The kids absolutely loved having their grandparents there to spend time with as did we! We can’t wait for their next trip.
