The Lake with Marshall
This Summer we were lucky enough to have Uncle Marshall come and visit us at the lake.
We had a long weekend and we made the most of it, hitting up some regular hotspots as well as places we hadn’t ever been before.
First up was one that’s been on our to-do list for a while; la Barbecue.
If you’ve done a search for BBQ in Austin, or really even just BBQ in Texas, you’ve come across this. La Barbecue started as a food truck and just recently moved into this permanent location. Since we had the long weekend we decided this was a good time to try it.
The plan was to get there about an hour before it opened and get in line. Since it was a weekday we were hoping the crowds were manageable and we were there early enough. Luckily we were right!
We were about four back in line. Good thing about la Barbecue is that even though the restaurant isn’t open, the bar is. We ordered some pints and waited the hour for them to open.
The wait was SOOOOOO worth it. We’ve tried a lot of Texas BBQ…. You can see our posts about it by searching BBQ on our search page, or by clicking here, here, here OR here oh wait, I thought that was it, but I guess not… here too. All of that BBQ was good, and some of it REALLY good. But I have to say this was my favorite. It was the perfect blend between simple and foodie fancy. I cannot WAIT to go back.
After lunch we were obviously very full. We decided to head over to South Congress, (one of our favorite spots downtown) to walk around and let all the yumminess settle a bit.
After South Congress we decided a walk just wasn’t going to cut it, we needed to bike some of that lunch off ;). Jordan and I had brought our bikes, and Holden rides on the back of Jordan’s bike. We figured instead of Isla bringing her bike we would just have Marshall rent a tandem and they could go together - what could go wrong?!
Seriously though, besides the occasional reminder from Marshall that Isla did in fact need to pedal and the backpack directly in Isla’s face, they were the best of buds all day.
It was a great day for a quick little ride, and we all had a fantastic time.
It being Summer in Austin, Texas it was pretty hot, and we thankfully planned to end the ride cooling off in Barton Springs. I’ve posted about this before, but this is a different side of Barton Springs.
On the other side of that bridge is the side that you have to pay to get in. It’s MUCH more crowded and Holden actually doesn’t like it very much. You can’t bring food or animals and it’s just a lot more regulated. No surprise, my family prefers this side - LOL!!!
The next day we spent the day at the pool and on the boat.
The big goal was to try and teach Isla to waterski. It was on our Summer Bucket list and she was PUMPED.
Unfortunately it was SUPER windy and it just didn’t seem to be something that was going to get checked off that day.
Marshall on the other hand was able to get up just fine on the wakeboard.
And the kids enjoyed watching their Uncle Marshall in his element.
And I think we all enjoyed watching Holden in his element…
It was a perfect weekend out on the water and we couldn’t have asked for more… Well, I guess if we are asking we could have asked for Isla’s blue hair dye not to wash out!
We finished the trip with some good old fashioned board game fun.
The kids can’t wait for their twerking Uncle Marshall to come back! Hopefully next time he can bring his girlfriend Kenzie!
