The Circus Came to Town!
For weeks we have been talking about taking Isla to the circus. We set up child care for Holden, planned a Saturday around the start time, making sure that Isla had a decent amount of rest time, and even got a circus themed dress from a friend, for Isla's very first trip to the big top. It's safe to say we were pretty excited. Unfortunately, our little girl didn't feel the same way.
Well, the day finally arrived, and it was time to head downtown to see "The Greatest Show on Earth". As we were walking into Reliant Stadium, Isla was pretty quiet, which for anyone who knows Isla isn't normal for her. Jordan and I figured she was just taking in her surroundings and definitely weren't worried. The look of awe, and overall quiet demeanor just got worse as we entered the stadium. We bought her a toy which seemed to entertain her and made our way through the MASSIVE crowds to our seats, which were FIVE ROWS BACK!!! At this point Jordan and I were definitely excited, and couldn't stop watching Isla to see her reaction to the pre-show performances.
As soon as the lights went out and the music started it was apparent we had a problem. We spent the next twenty minutes alternating between engaging, and calming Isla, who was displaying a range of emotions. She was either staring like a statue, or screaming in total fear. After realizing that nothing we did was going to make her enjoy her experience we decided it was time to throw in the towel. Maybe next year...
