Austin Trip
We are in the beginning of a traveling stretch as we will be taking five trips in the course of the next two months. Of those five, there are only two that we won’t be flying to. The first is a trip we took last week to Austin. We had a great time exploring the city. We got there Friday night and decided we wanted to go down to 6th Street for dinner. For those unfamiliar, this is the cities Entertainment District. Well, we soon learned that this is basically a strip of five blocks or so of mostly bars, and we started to realize that we were not going to be eating dinner there with Isla. It was still a lot of fun to walk around and see the different people and places. We found out once we got back to our hotel that we picked the weekend of “Marley Fest” to visit Austin which would explain the partying until 4AM outside our doors. We realized that we had finally reached the age where we were the ones complaining about the noise and not the ones making the noise. Despite the lack of sleep we woke up early on Saturday and walked down to “the other UT’s” campus. It was really nice and HUGE. It’s basically right in the middle of downtown. We had breakfast outside on campus, and did some sight-seeing. The weather was perfect and Teddy really enjoyed the walk as well. Later that afternoon we rented bikes and rode along Lady Bird Lake and stopped for some lunch and beers. After our bike ride we went and checked out the 2nd Street Shopping District. We found a really cool “Edison Lamp” and took Isla to the Austin Children’s Museum. Finally, that night we went to Maria’s Taco Express for dinner. We specifically went here because we saw it on Diners, Drive In’s and Dives. Unfortunately it did not really hold up to our expectations. The decor was eclectic and fun to look at nonetheless. All in all we had a great time and are looking forward to our trip next weekend to Corpus Christi with our friends Rick, Patricia and Shiloh!
